Fall River

Fall River is along Highway 2 and continues on from Waverley into a suburban community that has been rapidly expanding over the last 15 years. Another area known for waterfront homes and also less than twenty minutes to Halifax International Airport, Fall River has become a sought after area. There are four large subdivisions; the first large Schwarzwald began construction in the 1970’s with Fall River Village comprising of 1000 acres starting construction in 1973. Lakefront homes in Fall River Village are on Third Lake and Kinsac Lake. In 2009 three new subdivisions St. Andrews West and Kinloch Estates with waterfront properties on St. Andrews and Kinsac Lakes garnering prices well over $500,000.

Fall River gets its name from a stream running between Lake Thomas and Lake Miller whose waterfall supplied power for several mills during the 19th century. Today, Fall River is a growing and vibrant suburban community made up of newer subdivisions and many young families.

Highway 2 continues into Wellington and Grand Lake. Grand Lake is home to some of the largest and most expensive lakefront homes in the greater Halifax area. Known for the large acreage lots and very private settings such notable residents include Sidney Crosby. One of Nova Scotia’s largest provincial parks known as Laurie Park has been a family friendly campground and day picnic/beach destination since the late 1960’s.
