Beaver Bank-Upper/Middle Sackville

The community of Beaver Bank, considered the sister community to Lower Sackville dates back to 1776 when Loyalists from Boston settled there. Today, it is a developed community made up of many subdivisions and unique residential areas. Beaver Bank’s motto, “People Together with Nature”, reflects the many lakes, rivers and forests enjoyed by residents in the surrounding area.

Today the most prominent landmarks along Beaver Bank Road is the Barrett Lumber Company established in 1926 by Harold Barrett and has today expanded to a prominent truss and building supplier to contractors throughout Halifax. The sprawling development, Millwood extends from Beaver Bank Rd to Sackville Drive and residential growth in Beaver Bank has seen significant growth in the last twenty years. Most lots in Beaver Bank are still on well and septic services affording larger more private lots that in the neighbouring Lower Sackville.

Running along the Beaver Bank Road many developments have expanded such as Monarch Estates and Lost Creek. Windgate Drive connects Beaver Bank to the Windsor Junction area and Highway 102. The Millwood subdivision built during the 90’s can also be accessed from Beaver Bank Road.

Amenities in Beaver Bank are limited to a few small restaurants, convenience stores and pizza parlours. It is also home to the family friendly Lost Creek Golf Club. Middle and Upper Sackville are made up mostly of suburban neighbourhoods that have experienced significant growth over the last decade. The communities are home to a number of sports fields, making them a popular destination for baseball and softball teams. Music fans also enjoy the popular Weir Rockin' festival, an annual summer rock festival held at Weir Field in Upper Sackville. The district is also home to several schools and is a popular place to live for young families.

The community is home to two golf courses, and several community facilities including the Beaver Bank Kinsac Community Centre, a non-profit organization serving as a multi-purpose gathering place for residents of all ages. The Centre offers a wide range of programming from Yoga, Kung Fu and Zumba, to bingo and cribbage.

Beaver Bank shares sports facilities of the Sackville Sports Stadium with their neighbours in Lower Sackville and local sports teams are made up from both communities.
